Powerflushing is an effective process that we offer our clients to boost the efficiency of your central heating. It is a process that uses a mixture of water and chemicals to remove debris that has built up inside your radiators which prevents them heating up fully.
It is a simple procedure but there are a few common misunderstandings about how it works and other benefits it can have. Below is a breakdown of these common misunderstandings to help you fully understand the benefits of the service.
Many think that poweflushing runs the water and chemical mixture at very high pressures through your heating system. This is not the case, it is run under high circulation rates, but this does not equate to high pressure. It is a safe procedure that has low risk of damage to your central heating all the while helping to improve it’s performance.
Another common misconception is that powerflushing can stop your heating system from losing pressure. Sadly, this is not the case as low pressure is due to a leak within the system and powerflushing cannot seal the leak. However, if we do identify a leak within your system we can still fix this for you via other methods.
Finally, some may say that fitting a magnetic filter is as good as carrying out a powerflush. This isn’t entirely accurate as your normal central heating pump usually handles 15 litres of water per minute and if you already have a build-up of debris within your system, it may not be powerful enough to move the debris accumulated. However, if you have a new system installed, magnetic filters are a good idea to put in place as at this stage they can act as a preventative measure to stop your radiators accumulating too much debris in the future.
Powerflushing is a service we’ve been carrying out for many years and still advise it to many of our clients as it is very effective at improving central heating efficiency levels.
